Thank you for your interest in ICC-SWCC’s certifications and listings for small and medium wind turbines!
SWCC provides certification services to manufacturers of distributed (behind the meter) wind turbines up to 300 kW peak power.
Manufacturers seeking certification for their turbine first undergo a Preliminary Review with SWCC to confirm eligibility and to establish the specific testing and submittals to be required. A customized Certification Agreement is then drafted for acceptance by the applicant and ICC-SWCC. It details the submittals, testing requirements, scope and certification fees.
If testing has not been previously completed, the applicant then works conduct testing with an approved testing laboratory. The completed test report(s) and any required engineering analyses are submitted to ICC-SWCC for review and acceptance.
Upon submission of all testing, analyses and fees required in the Certification Agreement, ICC-SWCC staff reviews all material and calculates standardized performance ratings. The ICC-SWCC Certification Commission is then convened to review the entire package.
If approved for certification, ICC-SWCC issues certification documents, consisting of a certificate, Summary Report and rating label. They contain standardized rating information such as the Annual Energy Production, Power Production and Sound Level together with the Certification Class attained. The certification documents then are then posted to the ICC-SWCC directory for public use. Initial certification is granted for a period of one year, after which it is subject to annual renewal and quality control inspections.
